Diaper Diaries v... where am I now? 2.0?

I had to EXCELLENT comments to my last nappy post (lol) and rather than fill the comment box with an essay, I'd like to post my reply here. =)

Otherwise from the Comment Boxes: Thanks E and Paul!! I'm all about cloth diapers. There are actually cloth diapers that are pretty convenient for travel. If ECing goes well, I won't have many poopy diapers to clean at home (even with an infant) so I can add cloth travel nappies to the diaper bin (big ziplock baggies are great for storing them in the meantime.) There are occasions, I'm well aware, when disposables will be necessary -- and I'm going for as biodegradeable/chem-free as I can get!! Fortunatly, we know a very green couple with an adorable baby girl who can give us lots of advice on that, I'm just going to ask them about it. Save myself the research. ;)

E, the book you mention sounds like it is similar in idea to EC. The point of EC is to help your babies to never forget how their bodies feel and respond before they go to the bathroom and during. The method naturally encourages them to learn to control their urges earlier than fully diapered babies, with parents' help. Babies are born with a dislike for wet diapers, and most Americans are actually training their kids to ignore their natural instincts -- and then we try to train them back into the kids 3 years later! I bet with your last 2 children, it was much easier than with the first few. Tell me if I'm wrong! =D

And it's not some fool-proof-early-"training" method either -- EC isn't about that. It's about communicating with your children about their bodily needs, and helping them learn about them. And there are bumps in the road -- when babies teeth or learn to crawl, they're can be too distracted to pay attention to their bodily signals, and that's why I'll have the cloth diapers on my kid's soft little butt. LOL!!!

Of course, you're right!
