This posting is mainly for the benefit of family who actually care about these things. Loads of boring personal info detailed herein. ;)
Ah.... Chillin' at the Westin, one of the nicest joints in town. Our room is very comfortable - clean, cozy, unaffected, quality environmental controls and lacking in that often unavoidable phenomenon -- unpleasant hotel-scent. We've got a Starbucks coffee maker and all the ice we could ever ask for. Sadly however, we don't have a key to the minibar -- but who wants to pay $4.00 for a single bag of Peanut M&Ms anyway??!! I'll take the elevator downstairs and buy them myself, thanks. ;)
It's been interesting being pregnant on this trip. We're not quite 2 days in, and my body's experienced some unusual things. First is the weird here-and-gone-and-back-and-gone light rash on my left cheek, unlike any rash I've ever had. My OB told me at the first appt. that unless I'm having major skin problems, no to worry about skin changes during pregnancy. (Of course, she imparted this information in the following manner after I showed her a tiny odd rash that had popped up on my thigh: "You think that's bad? I've got a patient with [badly broken out, painful bright red ickiness] all over her (indicates face and upper body with hands)!! You should see what some of my patients deal with [in terms of skin problems]!!!)
OK, so a little rash is no big deal, but I'm still going to talk to the doc about it next week. Changing oxygen levels, however, is a major proposition. Pittsburgh is at a much higher altitude than L'Ville and the DC area. I think if I weren't pregnant I wouldn't even notice, but since my heart and lungs are working hard to pump as much oxygen as possible with 40% more blood than normal, the higher we climbed on the highways, the more oxygen I needed. By the time we were driving through Pittsburgh's suburbs, I had the window cranked down and was suckin' in as much as possible (which was hard, given the level of pollution in this down. This city stanks!! lol)
The lack of air forced me to end the day rather early, with me popping into bed at all of 8:45 PM, exhausted after a LONG walk downtown trying to find open restaurants. It really took it out of me. All we can figure is: must be the altitude plus the pollution, as otherwise I'm great!
The Quickening Quickens Since my uterus moved up and my belly popped out, I haven't felt the baby much, but I feel slightly more everyday. Today was particularly memorable. When we came back from brunch I laid on the bed for a little rest... and found myself being tickled from the inside!!! I could feel both tapping and buzzing, and it actually did tickle my belly. It was really light (I'm that ticklish ;) but even James got to feel a teensy bit of movement in there. =D Maybe by our sonogram on Wednesday of next week (the 25th), I'll really start to feel it kicking!
