I Did It!
I directed a choir! In performance!
Granted, only 3 people could sing this week, including the pianist and one of our Reverends. But still! That just meant everyone had their own mic ;)
It was really fun. My right arm is getting buff! I am still nowhere near having the conducting ability of most mediocre choral conductors but I'm getting better. I managed to cue everyone to come in at the same time and cut off at the same time. Whoo hoo!
And because it's about having fun, enjoying yourself and spreading that energy, I was only slightly nervous. I really feel like I belong here, and I know that even if I mess up terribly, I still belong. And that goes for anyone who works with me: I really don't care how good you are as long as you're feeling and projecting as positive an energy as you can muster. As famously sung by En Vogue, "Free your mind and the rest will follow!" Noone will care what you sound like as long as you're obviously enjoying yourself in the present moment.
I am sad however that a friend and fellow choir member is moving away and I won't get the chance to sing with her again. More importantly however, I am Very Happy for her and her family and the wonderful things happening for them!
Oh yeah.... and someone told me that the person I sound most like (in quality of voice) is Julie Andrews. Julie Andrews!!! BEST COMPLIMENT EVER!!!
